I have been teaching the topic “force and motion” for the last 17 years. Some of the concepts in this topic are difficult for our students to understand. If the teacher is not well versed in the content there are chances of student misconception on the concept force and motion. Once the misconception is in build in the minds of the learners it takes long time to erase such misconception. Through my teaching experiences I have learnt some better ways of teaching these topics without misconception and make the learners feel the lesson and make it lively and interactive. To make the lesson more interactive and interesting by motivating the children to participate is very important. So, I have expected lots of activities for the students with lots of simulations and interactive videos. Even for the teacher if there is a particular guide/ instruction to teach particular topic the teaching learning will be worth.
From the first module ‘Force and Motion’ I have gained lots of experiences. As a teacher our duty is not only to present the solution but also inspire students to find for the solution. Teacher should act as a guide and monitor. Provide a situation and ask them to explore and come up with their own situation. The topic like drawing of graphs for each and every activity gives me an insight to make the teaching learning more interactive. Through the analysis of graphs, concepts can be made clear and the teaching more relevant. The listing of examples and non -examples also gives the clear differences between the concepts. Representing every topic with the help of diagram will benefit the diversity of the learners. As a result, no child in the classroom is left out. The use of simulation and short video for the calculation makes the lesson interactive and realistic.
The practical approach of teaching gives hands on practice to the learners and can develop a better retention power and develop fine analysis skills. Students can also learn sequential ways of arranging things in their daily life. I have enhanced my content, pedagogical skills and ICT skills in teaching the lesson. I find it very easy and relevant to demonstrate the newton’s third law. This demonstration can be done anywhere like in the laboratory, home or the classroom. The materials are easily available and very simple to carry out. The experiment does not possess any risk during and after the experiment.
I am planning to incorporate all those concepts, examples and demonstration including videos and simulation in teaching the lesson. I am going to make my lesson more presentable and interactive by making the lesson activity and practical based. I am going to practice all those pedagogical, content and ICT skill in my planning and teaching.
